Once upon a time, back when I was a practicing naturopathic doctor, I ended up at a party with a very drunk executive from Orphan Pharmaceutical telling me how they had created this plan with FDA to reschedule GHB and take it off the market for consumer use - as he told it - by convincing FDA it was a date rape drug. At least as he explained it, they had little evidence for this at the time, but because there had been one high-profile case, they has the support of the agency. He said we should enjoy being able to use it while we could...and then a year or so later it was gone. Your explanation here seems a bit more plausible. I agree it's important history.
Xywav right now $18,000/month. You would have to make 320,000 pre tax for one year. I am duo degreed and can’t afford this. This is a drug that had been around for years. It doesn’t use new technology (gene splicing etc) Why so expensive? Greed.
I would love if On Drugs would look at MAPS and what is going on with their FDA trials for MDMA. From what I see they very well may try the Xyrem tactics. Rick Dobblin long ago promised to deliver MDMA at a low price so everyone in need could access it. Last I heard they were contemplating 1500-3000 per dose.
